help Getting Started
What does a first consultation look like? expand_more
We start with a straightforward phone or video call. You tell us what's going on, and we'll explain what options make sense for your situation. No obligation, no pressure, and no hourly billing while we talk it through.
How much does it cost? expand_more
We use flat-fee pricing for all our services. You'll know the cost before we start — no hourly billing, no surprise invoices. The exact fee depends on the scope of work involved.
Do I need to come to your office? expand_more
Probably not. We're a remote-first practice. Most of our clients meet with us by phone or video. For Nebraska clients, in-person meetings are available in specific circumstances. Minnesota clients are served 100% remotely.
help Estate Planning & Trusts
Is a will enough for my farm? expand_more
In most cases, a will alone means your estate goes through probate — a public court process that can take months and tie up the farm. A revocable living trust, when properly funded, keeps your estate out of probate entirely and gives your family a smoother transition.
What does "trust funding" mean? expand_more
Trust funding is the process of retitling your assets — farmland, bank accounts, equipment — into the name of your trust. Without this step, the trust doesn't actually control those assets, and they'll go through probate anyway. We include trust funding as part of every estate plan.
Can you protect the farm from nursing home costs? expand_more
There are legal strategies to help protect farm assets from being consumed by long-term care expenses. The right approach depends on your specific situation, and earlier planning provides more options. We can walk you through what makes sense for your family.
help Ag Business & Real Estate
What kind of business entity is best for my farm? expand_more
That depends on your operation — how it runs, who's involved, what your goals are, and what state you're in. We help families choose between LLCs, partnerships, S-corps, and other structures based on what actually fits.
Should I have a lawyer review my wind energy lease? expand_more
Absolutely. Wind and solar leases are 30-40 year commitments that affect how your land can be used for decades. The terms in the developer's standard lease are written to protect the developer, not you. Get independent counsel before you sign.
help Service Areas
What states do you serve? expand_more
We are licensed and serve clients in Nebraska and Minnesota only.
Can I meet with you in person in Minnesota? expand_more
Minnesota clients are served 100% remotely. There are no in-person meetings for Minnesota clients. This is a convenience — you get a licensed Minnesota attorney without driving anywhere.
